Frequently Asked Questions

What RKI monitor models does this calibration service cover?

This per-monitor calibration fee covers any active RKI Instruments portable gas monitor — including GX-3R, GX-3R Pro, GX-6100, GX-Force, Eagle 2, and 03/04-series single-gas monitors — with any combination of O2, CO, H2S, LEL, or PID sensors installed. For specialty gas sensors (SO2, NH3, Cl2, etc.), call 800.829.9580 first to confirm availability.

What does the calibration service include?

Our technicians test the monitor's sensor response against certified reference gas, adjust calibration to manufacturer specifications, inspect the unit, and issue a calibration certificate documenting the date, technician, gases used, and pass/fail results. The calibration certificate is recognized for OSHA compliance recordkeeping.

How do I send my monitor in for calibration?

Pack your monitor securely and ship it via UPS (preferred) to: PK Safety Supply, Attn: Service Dept, Suite 210, 1829 Clement Ave., Alameda, CA 94501. Please avoid USPS for time-sensitive service. Include a note with your contact information and any specific concerns about the monitor's performance.

Does OSHA require calibration of portable gas detectors?

Yes. 29 CFR 1910.146 (confined space entry) requires that monitoring equipment be calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Most manufacturers, including RKI, specify calibration at intervals not to exceed six months, with bump testing before each use. Maintaining calibration records supports OSHA compliance documentation.

Does PK Safety service other gas detector brands?

Yes. In addition to RKI Instruments, PK Safety's in-house service team calibrates and repairs BW Honeywell, RAE Systems, and WatchGas gas monitors. Contact us at 800.829.9580 to confirm your specific model is supported before shipping.

Will I receive documentation of the calibration?

Yes. Every calibration includes a printed certificate listing the monitor model, serial number, calibration date, technician, reference gas values used, and the adjusted readings confirming the instrument meets manufacturer specifications. Retain this certificate as part of your OSHA compliance recordkeeping.
