What does a filter do on a gas detector?

A gas detector filter is typically an insertable mesh filter that collects dust and other airborne debris from the air entering the gas detector. The work site air may contain debris that can potentially clog the gas detector and corrupt the internal gas detection sensor. Changing the filter on your gas detector when it gets dirty is essential for air to pass through the filter without damaging the sensor. Most filters typically will last the entire life of the gas detector, but can get clogged when used in dirty work environments with lots of dust, such as basements, manholes, and utility tunnels.

How do you change the filter on a gas detector?

Read the owners manual for instructions when changing the gas detector filter. The filter is typically located between the outer case and sensor. This may mean unscrewing the front or back panel using a Phillips screwdriver, depending on the location of the filter. Remove the plate to locate the filter. Remove the old filter and put the new one in place. Put the plate back and check that the monitor works correctly.
