Why Reliable Gas Sensors Matter in the Workplace

Gas detection sensors are your business’s first line of defense against a gas leak. When readings exceed the allowable concentration, your team must take immediate action to limit exposure and remediate the problem. Gas sensors lose accuracy as they age, and should be replaced every one to five years. Keep your sensors up-to-date and calibrated to maintain operational efficiency and protect your staff's health and safety.

Our Range of Industrial Gas Sensors

PK Safety has been trusted for over 75 years to deliver safety solutions that protect workers across industries. We sell all types of gas detection sensors and related equipment, including:

Fixed Gas Sensors: Fixed gas sensors stay in one location where the target gas may occur. They should be inspected regularly to ensure accuracy.

Replacement Cartridges: A new cartridge will increase the detector’s accuracy. Replace the gas cartridge every one to five years or as the sensor loses accuracy.

Remote Gas Sensors: Remote gas detectors are used in the field and send their findings to the central control panel for review and operational instructions.

Top Brands We Carry

PK Safety only carries the most trusted brands in the industry. These manufacturers design their equipment around the latest safety standards to ensure compliance and ease of use.

RKI Instruments - With products made in California, RKI Instruments has emerged as the world’s leading provider of gas detection equipment. RKI gas sensors are used across applications and industries, including utilities, oil and gas, water management, construction, first responders, and chemical engineering.

Honeywell Analytics - Headquartered in North Carolina, Honeywell Analytics is a leading provider of industrial gas detection products, specializing in automation, sustainability, and efficiency.

Types of Gases Detected

Our systems target a wide range of target gases and chemicals, including:

Carbon Monoxide (CO): Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless hazardous gas that is difficult to detect without a gas monitor. It is found near burning fuels and natural gas.

Oxygen (O2): A drop in oxygen can signal a high concentration of deadly gases and make it difficult for staff to breathe. Monitor O2 levels to ensure a safe work environment.

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S): Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, flammable gas that often smells like rotten eggs. It’s found in natural gas and crude oil and is a by-product of making sulfuric acid and elemental sulfur.

Methane (CH4): Methane is the main component of natural gas. High concentrations displace the amount of oxygen in the air.  Methane is found in oil and gas facilities and is produced when making various industrial chemicals.

Hydrogen (H2): Hydrogen is a non-toxic, naturally occurring chemical typically monitored with a multi-gas detector.

Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2): Nitrogen dioxide is highly hazardous to humans in low concentrations. It’s formed when burning fossil fuels and completing various industrial processes.

FAQs:

Which sensor is used for gases? Gas sensors can be electrochemical or use catalytic diffusion to detect and monitor the gas concentrations in the workplace. Catalytic diffusion sensors monitor combustible gases, and electrochemical sensors monitor a range of target gases and vapors, including the percentage of oxygen in the air.

What are the different types of gas detector sensors? Gas sensors can target a single gas or multiple gases at once. They are categorized by the target gas or the technology used to calculate the concentration.

What is a fixed gas detection system? A fixed gas detection system stays mounted to the wall in a fixed location where the target gas or gases are likely to be found. The sensor records the concentration and relays the signal to a database or control panel for review and further action.

What is the best gas detector sensor? The best gas monitor depends on your operations and your goals. Look for a sensor designed by a reputable company for your target application.
